Healthy reward for children’s good work

Two South Devon schools have been recognised for their commitment to healthy and climate friendly food.

Charleton C of E Academy and West Alvington C of E Academy, both part of the Learning Academy Partnership, have been awarded the Food for Life Bronze Award.

They have been working closely with Food for Life to transform their food culture and that of their local communities by connecting children with better food.

As part of the bronze award scheme the academies have introduced a programme serving seasonal meals in which 75% of the ingredients are prepared by an experienced school cook.

Trust Catering Lead, Linda Keiller, has been working closely with the academies, pupils and parents, and as well as making a positive changes with lunches, the academies have also given the pupils a chance to visit a farm, cook and participate in food growing activities. They now look forward to working together towards a silver award.
