All Saints’ Thurlestone C of E Academy, which is part of the Learning Academy Partnership, has been awarded the Food for Life Bronze Award for its healthy and climate-friendly food culture.
The academy has been working with Food for Life to transform its food culture as well as that of its local community, by connecting the children with climate-friendly and healthy food.
As part of the Bronze Award scheme, All Saints’ Thurlestone C of E Academy serves seasonal school meals from their in-house kitchen, 75% of which are freshly prepared by an experienced school cook.
Learning Academy Partnership’s Catering Lead, Linda Keiller, has been working closely with the academy, children and parents so everyone is involved in making improvements to the menu and dining experience giving a whole school approach to food not just the lunch provision.
The academy also gives every child the opportunity to visit a farm, cook and participate in food growing activities. Following this fantastic achievement, All Saints’ Thurlestone are now working towards a Silver Award for the next academic year.
Lesa Garside, Head Teacher at All Saints’ Thurlestone C of E Academy, said: “We are incredibly proud that our hard work and dedication to transforming our food culture has been recognised by Food for Life.
“Providing our pupils with a well-balanced meal ensures they are healthy and ready for learning, and we are pleased that we are able to extend our support to the wider community to help them make healthy choices too.”
