National Year of Reading 2026: Creating a Nation of

    Readers

On Monday 7 July, the Secretary of State announced 2026 as The National Year of Reading, a nationwide campaign which aims to reverse the decline in reading for pleasure among children, young people and adults.

The National Year of Reading is a DfE initiative, in partnership with The National Literacy Trust (NLT). This summer, the NLT will distribute over 72,000 new books to children in areas with high poverty rates to support positive reading habits at home.

Join us for our free CPD supporting building reading for pleasure in our schools

    • Teachers as Readers

This group provides free evidence–based CPD for teachers, teaching assistants, early years professionals, librarians, reading volunteers and others to enrich their understanding of reading for pleasure (RfP) and how to support it.  This is working on focusing on the impact with a small group of children.

    • Transforming your reading culture

    Targeting the whole school

One afternoon session per half-term face to face in Bovey Tracey - delegates must attend all the face-to-face sessions.

Attend all sessions and receive £150 worth of reading for pleasure books. The TSRC programme is underpinned by research; throughout the programme there are articles/books for participants to read as well as references to research built into the session plans. This research is split into two strands: reading for pleasure and leadership development/change management theory. There will be gap tasks in between the sessions, and you will receive a certificate once the course is completed.

These sessions are still open to sign up and attend for the rest of this academic year.
