Developing Reading Fluency

Friday 1st April and Friday 6th May 2022, 11.45am – 1.00pm.  You must attend both sessions and please ensure you join in time for the start time.

These sessions will explore the big ideas of reading fluency and how this sits within the wider picture of reading and literacy development. The links between fluency and comprehension will be explored and an introduction to practical classroom strategies in session 1 will give attendees tips and ideas to take away and try out before the second session.

Session 1 (the big questions we will be discussing):

  1. What is reading fluency?
  2. What are the different aspects of reading fluency?
  3. Which classroom strategies can I use to develop pupils’ reading fluency?

Session 2 (the big questions we will be discussing):

  1. How can the reading curriculum offer be designed to help learners ‘Zoom in’ and ‘Zoom out’ on different fluency aspects?
  2. Which instructional and environmental strategies can I employ to develop my pupils’ reading fluency?
