Working in Devon and Cornwall

Living in Devon and Cornwall means immersing yourself in some of the UK's most stunning natural landscapes, from dramatic coastlines to lush countryside and national parks like Dartmoor and Exmoor. The charming villages and historic towns brimming with character provide a rich cultural experience.

With good road and rail connections, Devon and Cornwall are well-connected, featuring the major cities of Exeter, renowned for its stunning cathedral, and Plymouth, celebrated for its rich maritime history and historic Barbican area.

You will find plenty of local festivals, farmers' markets, and community events that celebrate the region's vibrant culture and heritage. Whether you are strolling along the scenic South West Coast Path or exploring the quaint cobbled streets of St Ives, Devon and Cornwall promise a life filled with beauty and culture.

A Pension You Can Count On

All colleagues are automatically enroled into a career-average pension scheme, with either the Teachers Pension Scheme or the Local Government Pension Scheme, depending on your role. This is an excellent opportunity to invest in your future, and with Learning Academy Partnership’s generous employer contribution (which increases based on your salary), you will be building your retirement fund with ease.

The best part? You will not pay tax or National Insurance on your contributions, maximising your savings potential. And if you prefer to opt-out of the pension scheme, that is entirely up to you – the choice is yours! It is all part of ensuring you feel supported, secure, and valued every step of the way.

Flexible and Family Friendly Policies

As a School Trust that values the diversity of our communities and workforce, we recognise uniqueness and strive to foster an inclusive culture aligned with our values.

Our approach to agile working is not just about offering part-time roles, it is about driving a cultural shift in how we think about work. Leaders champion creative solutions, including part-time leadership roles, that bring new perspectives and flexibility to our teams. This approach is proving to be invaluable, allowing us to retain exceptional talent while delivering outstanding outcomes.

Our family-friendly policies help you balance work with what matters most. By offering parental leave, and other family-oriented benefits, we ensure our people can balance their professional and personal responsibilities with ease. These policies not only contribute to the wellness of our people but also help us attract and retain top talent, creating a more inclusive and supportive workplace for all.

Career Pathways and Professional Development Network

CPD & Career Pathways

We’re committed to helping every colleague grow and thrive. Whether you're building your skills, stepping into leadership, or exploring new opportunities, our tailored CPD and career pathways support your journey.

From personalised coaching and leadership programmes to Level 2 & 3 courses and apprenticeships, we offer a wide range of development options for all roles. Our professional learning offer is regularly updated to meet the needs of our diverse teams.

If you’re passionate about learning and want to grow in a supportive environment, you’ll find plenty of opportunities here.

Appraisals

Our appraisal process is designed to support your growth. We use a unified appraisal form, focusing on personal growth and professional development. This approach fosters meaningful and constructive discussions, allowing us to focus on each individual’s strengths, goals, and areas for improvement. By ensuring that appraisals are about the colleague’s journey and not tied to financial rewards, we create a space for honest feedback, reflection, and mutual growth.

Professional Development Network

Collaboration is at the heart of our Trust. Through our development network, colleagues connect, share expertise, and inspire one another, building a culture of learning and innovation.

Our School Trust is underpinned by our four core beliefs; we are stronger together, a sense of belonging; removing barriers and realising the possible. This means that by working collectively, we can achieve our absolute best to ensure that children, especially the most vulnerable, can flourish. Our ethos is one of working together to Empower, Excel, Together.

“Being part of a hub planning model, having the marking policy and sharing key information during non-pupil days supports my workload and work life balance.”

Apprenticeship Opportunities

We collaborate with award-winning apprenticeship providers and local colleges to offer a wide range of high-quality programmes suited to all career paths. With something for everyone, these apprenticeships combine practical experience with nationally recognised qualifications. We are committed to providing opportunities to help you grow and succeed in your career.

Educational Support

Whether you're interested in becoming a Teaching Assistant, specialising in Early Years Education, or pursuing a SEND pathway, we provide tailored opportunities to help you develop your skills and advance in your career. For those looking to progress further, we also offer the Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification, which equips you with advanced skills and knowledge to take on more responsibility and enhance your impact in the classroom. These programmes are designed to support your growth, from entry-level roles to leadership positions in education.

Non Educational Support

We also collaborate with local colleges to provide practical skill qualifications for colleagues in roles like Site Supervisors, offering opportunities to develop hands-on expertise in areas including electrics and plumbing.

In addition, we support colleagues in business support roles by offering the chance to pursue a business qualification which may include AAT or Chartered qualifications, helping you take your career to the next level.

This provides you the opportunity to gain valuable qualifications while working in a real-world environment, enhancing both your skills and career prospects.

Flu Jab Reimbursement

At our School Trust, we are committed to the health and wellbeing of all our colleagues. We understand the impact that illness can have, especially during the winter months, and we want to help our colleagues stay healthy. That’s why we strongly encourage all our colleagues to get the flu vaccine, to protect both themself and those around you.

“The flu vaccine reimbursement has led to me taking up the winter flu vaccine which I would not have been able to do if I had to pay out of my own pocket.”

If you’re not eligible for a free vaccine, you can still book your flu jab at any pharmacy and claim the cost back through our Employee Self Service portal. Prioritising your health means you can continue to thrive both at work and in your personal life, and we are here to ensure you have the resources to flourish.

Health & Wellness Network

At our School Trust, we are deeply committed to providing a safe, healthy, and purposeful environment where our people can thrive. To support this commitment, each of our hubs has a dedicated Wellbeing Champion and a trained Mental Health First Aider, ensuring that colleagues have the support and resources to look after their own emotional and mental wellbeing. This holistic support network fosters a positive, inclusive culture and ensures that individuals have access to the resources and care they need to succeed both personally and professionally.

Joining our Trust means being part of a team that truly values and nurtures its people.
